I was pleased with my 460 until I got my 1st diesel. Then the 460 was disappointing to tow with. Now with all I have done to mine, it will outrun most any diesel around here(including mine) but the diesels will still out tow it. But you also have to remember the 460 has 30+ year old technology . The diesels are new school.

I was able to tow a 28' enclosed trailer with a 2500# IMCA Modified + equipment with mine without much hassle. The bigger hills required me to hold it WOT, but otherwise it would do 60-65 without much issue, and I have 3.55 gears. Aside from dragging trailer brakes, I'd be suspicious of a clogged cat or worn out ignition components. If my smallblock can pull a reasonably heavy trailer, yours should without breaking a sweat.
