When I try to rev the engine (in neutral) it will only go to 2500 then falls on its face. RPM drops off and the engine surges. It will hold 2500 even under load.
I just replaced the fuel pump with a new on as PM.
I have not tried putting in an electric pump to be sure there is enough fuel at high rpms but it never had this problem before.
The engine sits all winter between operations.
I believe the rated rpm for this engine is 3200. Is that correct?
The fuel pump that is on this engine is straight truck. The only thing that isn't would be the exhaust (water cooled) and the heat exchanger.
Other wise this 7.3 came right out of a NAPA catalogue. I have had it for 10 years now.
Any how, like I said, I will try cutting in an electric pump to see if fuel starvation is the problem. If so I will have to change out the fuel pump I just installed. That is a big pita because the water cooled exhaust blocks the fuel pump and will have to come off.
As for pictures, I have some on my IPhone and will see if I can use them. This is borrowed computer.
