eratic idle and check engine light
O.k. here we go guys. I have a constant rough idle that has never gone away doesn't matter what kind of gas I use. so that is the first thing. The other thing is that I know when I use regular gas I get a check engine light, but when I use mid grade gas I won't get one. I know this sounds weird but its true cause I used mid grade gas for about 6 months and never got the light. and before that I had one. Then once I tried regular again last weak I got the light again. Since then I put mid grade back in it and I haven't gooten the light for over 100 miles. So I dunno the problem is probably tied together. Thanks!
What is the octane rating of mid grade where you buy gas? Stock explorers are almost always tuned to run 87 octane.
The first step in diagnosing an engine that lights up the CEL is to pull the trouble code(s) from the computer. '96 and up use OBD-II and require a scanner to get trouble codes. '95 and earlier use OBD-I and you can extract trouble codes with a jumper wire and test light.
