Quick 4x4 question...

Curious, how does the 4x4 engage in the new F-150's?
When I put the truck in 4WD I can here the click sound coming from the front axle, where as it comes from the t-case on my Ranger.
Just wondering how it's set-up...

Vacuum operated. System holds vacuum pressure to keep 2wd (4wd disengaged). When you flick the switch the system releases the pressure via solenoid and the hub ends engage.

The actuator switches the transfer case to engage the front driveshaft and the vacuum releases the hubs so the front axles can engage.

Don't believe so on the 09 up trucks. I've never had issues with the electric switch. Had a 2005, 2009 and now a 2012. All 4x4 with electric switch

i believe 2010 was the last year for the manual transfer case... either that or it's just on lower trim levels. I have a 2010 stx with a manual transfer case.
