I am going to replace my 1983 460 with a 1990 EFI 302 from a Ford E-250. The F-250 4x4 truck has a 4 speed transmission. What flywheels will fit the 1990 302? I have a bell housing for a small block ford motor that was from the early 80's.I also have a automatic transmission and tranfer case from a 1983 F-150 4x4, this truck also had a 302. Will this transmission fit? Are the drive shafts (u-joints and lengths the same) interchangeable?
You definitely need to get a 50oz late model flywheel for the 1990 302. 1983 was the transitional year, so if you want to use the 1983 flexplate from the automatic, be very careful and ask somebody who really knows what to look for before using it, to see if it's a 50oz inbalance or a 28oz inbalance.
I assume your truck is an f250 or larger that had the 460 in it. If the automatic/transfer case set-up was out of an f150, then there may be differences in the driveline sizes(u-joints and stuff).
Check out the motor mount perches on the frame. The 460 perches may be different than a 302 perch.
The u joints and shafts are larger then the ones on a f150 and you'll have to use the perches and mounts from a small block. a year or so ago I was working on just about the same swap, But from a 302 to a 460. You should be able to find everything ya need easy in any junkyard to do the small block swap. Just not easy finding the parts to do a small block to big block swap in the 80 up trucks
