i have an89 f250 4x4 and the bolts that mount the extension sleeve to the trans for the transfer case have come loose once i tightened them back up and now all but two of the six have come loose agian and the two remaining have broke off does anyone have any idea as to what can cause this and what fix i can use and also i have a burning question on if the transfer case can be supported so ther is not so much weight hanging off these bolts?
I would use lome locktite to keep those bolts installed. as for supporting the t-case, I don't think that it is possible. needs to be free of the body and frame to move with the drivetrain.
jim first i would like to say thanks for the response i did do this the first time they came loose and the result was two of the six bolts snaping off or brakeing off in the transmission and now i am having to pull the transfer case and the sleeve between the trans and transfer case so i can drill and easy out the broken remains out so i can install new bolts i also found that the bolts ford used for this application are not the best in fact i think they are the worst to small for the job and not strong enough to support the weight of the transfer case and the torque involved i have upgraded all the bolts but those two broken ones since i am working on the right now but i was hoping to take some of the wieght of the transfer case off that portion if the trans ....
