Original bulb socket, soldered wires to each contact
Wired up,soldered, just need to cap off wires
Crap!,this is the circuit removed from housing
Used LED bulbs in place of original bulbs. Used the original sockets and spliced the wires I soldered on the sockets into the harness. Worked like a charm with no money spent except for two LED bulbs
Great tips and write up! I'm planning to pull my console over the winter to fix the dim display for the compass, etc...and I'm glad for any further tips on removing the console. (Hopefully without breaking the console, damaging the head liner, etc...
That being said...does anyone have a pic of pics of a removed console so that I can see the clips, etc?
Nice write up. In my "research", this light is called the map light. The dome light is the one with switches in the third row. Of course, I am ready to be corrected if my intel is bad. and is that third row light supposed to come on with door open, or is it just the switches? sorry for the slight derail..
This is a great tutorial...any advice on broken switches for the map lights? Both of mine have broken on top of the foil wearing out...Really don't want to go the dealer route...they say you have to buy the whole console!
My OH lie o meter took a dive for the second time in 12 years. I also noticed the backlight lamps(A) for rear HVAC controls were out. They can be removed from console, and lampholders easily. Can anyone recommend an LED replacement that will last, and doesn't take a month to get in hand?
I bought my excursion back in Feb and since I have used this forum extensively for tips, tricks and advice. For my first post I decided to give back to the community and do a dome light conversion write up.
great write up did conversion just like this post I used 90 degree angled 194 socket pigtails I put white 6000k led zevo 921 bulbs in its place works great looks great couldn't use old bulb sockets because had to remove ribbon wire was causing fuses to blow and fires to start so I did this hard wire install just used 194 sockets with 90 degree angle looks great works amazing if any body wants photos of the way I did mine let me know similar to this post just different bulbs and sockets

If you wanna put together a how-to like the other threads (with pics! ) we always like having more than one thread that attacks the same problem or does the same mod, differently!
