Question Looking at late model engine in1972

Im looking at pulling my motor & transmission out of my 1998 F-150 & putting it in my 1972 truck. Keepin the fuel injection with the transmission. Anybody have any ideas on this?

I think Ford Racing Parts has a wiring harness available to use with a Mod motor. They developed it after the release of their 5.0 Mod crate engine. And Mod = Modular engine for this engine family, 4.2 V6, 4.6 and 5.4 V8, and 6.8 V10.

Ok I have the complete 98 truck & the 72 truck. The 98 Im pulling the computer & wireing from it with the motor & putting it into the 72. What about the engine & transmission mounts? If it would work I would pull the 98 body off & put the 72 body on the 98 rolling frame. I just dont know if the frame is the same width.

The first question is what engine is in the '98. How can anyone possible say what mounts you would need if we do not know what engine you are dealing with? The frames are not the same. There is a thread around here by FoPar putting a bump body on a '02 chassis.

I seen a '69 Camaro ragtop yesterday that had a LS1 & was totally late modeled out including the dash with airbags from a late model Camaro. It looked really nice. Almost made me wonder if he grafted the '69 body panels onto a new Camaro. Something to think about. Swapping in the dash & column from the '98 as well. Doing door panels that resemble the '98's & you get the idea.

The mounts should be nealy the same as they are Modular motors built off the same architecture: a V-type block for the 4.2 V6, and the 4.6 and 5.4 V8s, and 6.8 V10. That is the point for the Mod motors, so they are similar.

Yes the motor is a SOHC 4.6 with the automatic out of a 98 Ford F-150 2wd. ext. cab. I seen the 02 truck. Just Im want to keep the fuel injected, MAF sensor ABS. Just wanting to put the Cab & bed from the 72 onto the 1998 running chasis. A 1972 with the 98 rolling with fuel injection running late model wheels. Keeping the 1972 look on the outside & inside until the hood is raised.

Obviously your wheelbases don't match so you have 3 options: chop the 98 supercab frame to match the 72 long or shortbed, extend the 72 lb or sb, or a flatbed.

You might be best served keeping your chassis & mounting the engine & trans into it. Getting a harness from Ford Racing or build your own.

Yes Im going to cut down the 98's frame to match the 72 short bed. The cabs line up almost in the same spot on the rear. The front of the Cab is a perfect match. I seen what the other guy did with the 02 truck for the bed to get it onto the newer frame. The wireing Im useing the wireing that the 98 already has going to run the wireing just the same on the 72 cab as it is on the 98 cab. Anyone have any ideas let me know Im looking at have a 72 with multiport fuel injection. Wil post up pics when I start.
