is this a good idea?

this isnt really a tech question so please dont yell at me for posting it here.

my bronco needs to be redone and winter seems like the time to do it. today i saw an 88 Grand Marquis in pretty good shape for 300 bucks. my plan is to garage the bronco, tear it apart and drive the G-Marq while im doing the work. here's the part i need help with......i want to swap the 302 and auto trans in the Marq for the 300 and three speed in the bronco once the body and interior work is done. i figure id pay 300 bucks for just an engine and tranny at minimum and why not drive the Marq, work on the bronco and yank the motor, tranny and anything else i can use off the Marq in the spring.

another thing i wanted to know was......anybody have(or have had) a marq near that year? how is/was it? like i said before, the car is in good shape( no rust, almost perfect interior, runs/drives great, all acc work) and is definatly worth the three hundred. should i tear it apart in the spring or just keep it as a back-up vehicle?

all opinions/advice welcome!

thanks in advance.

Ice

I have an '86 Grand Marquis with 225,000 miles on it. Original engine (302), trannie (AOD), and axle (8.8). The most major repair ever done to it was a new water pump about 2 years ago. The dang thing is bullet-proof. After being under the care of my mother and sister for several years, I'd say it's only seen 15 oil changes in it's life. The last 3-4 done by me. It's the most reliable vehicle I've ever seen, and by far the best 200 dollars we ever spent when we bought it in '96.

It seems that the 302 for the car wouldn't have the same torque that you would be looking for in a heavy Bronco. I have a 302 in my Bronco that is stock for the most part. It could definitely use a few more ponies and torque.

Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.
