My Official Build Thread (Lots Of Pics Coming!)

Ok, so I bought the truck for $2000 with a solid body, but no bed. I know where I am getting my bed from, so that's not an issue.

This is how I got the truck.

<a href="http://s1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/?action=view&amp;current=Resampled_2012-07-29_17-57-08_20.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/Resampled_2012-07-29_17-57-08_20.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/?action=view&amp;current=Resampled_2012-07-29_17-56-53_562.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/Resampled_2012-07-29_17-56-53_562.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

So far I have:
-Replaced both upper shock mounts.
-New plugs, wire, distributor cap, and rotor.
-Replaced the passenger side rear lead spring hanger.
-New gas tank and vent valve.
-Grant steering wheel.
-Run a new Edelbrock choke cable.
-New Edelbrock air filter.
-Found a solid chrome drop rear bumper at a JY for $125.

Here is my before on the rear bumper.

<a href="http://s1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/?action=view&amp;current=Resampled_2012-08-13_15-14-40_11.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/Resampled_2012-08-13_15-14-40_11.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Here is the "new" bumper I picked up from the Junkyard.

<a href="http://s1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/?action=view&amp;current=Resampled_2012-08-14_09-51-03_860.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/Resampled_2012-08-14_09-51-03_860.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I had ordered a 4" Skyjacker suspension lift, but the bolts that hold the coil at the bottom were frozen in, so I didnt want to break them off, so I returned the lift. I noticed that the it had a 3" block on the rear, so I think it has a small lift on it already. So I measured to see what size shocks I needed in the front and rear. So I got Skyjacker shocks on the way.

I also ordered some 33X12.5R15 BFG Mud Terrain KM2's

<a href="http://s1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/?action=view&amp;current=imagesashx.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/imagesashx.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

They are getting mounted on some 15x10 American Racing Outlaw II wheels.

<a href="http://s1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/?action=view&amp;current=SS.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p536/keiths78f150/SS.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Once I get the new shocks, tires, and wheels on, I will post pics. Hope you all stay around to check it out.

waiting to see how long it takes before someone calls dibs on that "old" rear bumper

They look good on our trucks & are semi desirable.

It's pretty rough, and some idiot welded about 100lbs of steel for the homemade hitch. The things seriously ways about 200lbs.

If I were closer I'd be willing to deal with it. I'd just cut off what he added. It's just steel. Not like it can't be easily manipulated

It looks like you got a better truck to start off with than I do. Good luck with your project.

Yea, but the bumper is pretty rough. Dings, dents, etc.

I got extremely lucky. The guy had $4000 in body work done. New doors, fenders, hood. Replaced the cab corners, etc. Not an ounce of rust and not to mention, brand new paint. It sat for 2 years, but cleaned up like it was fresh out of the paint booth. Motor runs like a charm and transmission shift smoothly. The guy had the motor and tranny rebuilt also. He just ran out of money and needed some fast cash. So I gave him $2000 and basically stole the truck. Only thing I needed to replace was the shocks, upper shock mounts, and passenger leaf spring hanger. Now it's all just getting the interior done(seats, carpet, radio, etc) and getting the bed.

Ok guys, I know where I can get a short bed, but it is a high dollar buy. Do any of you have or know where I can buy a straight short bed for a reasonable price?

sweet truck man. i may go with the 33x12.50 bfg mud terrains myself. cant wait to see what they look like on my truck with no lift. if its tight then 2 in coils it is! if you cant find a bed i see alot of guys running 80's step side beds. however the step side bed i mentioned to ya on my build thread is off a dentside ford.

Buy a truck out here and ship it back, part it out & keep the bed. You'll make $$ if you're in the rust belt. I don't know how many times I've told guys on here to do this.

Even out here in the rust free zone straight beds are getting harder to come by!

I know what you mean chase. If I can find a good truck with a solid bed, I would definitely buy it and part it out. All the good trucks I find are like 6k. Cant make money on that lol
