Well I finally went and did it. This evening I put down a deposit on a 2000 V10 4x4 Excursion Limited. It's a southern truck with a clean Carfax that confirms that it's called Alabama home it's entire life. Which means it hasn't been eaten away by northern winters, which was a necessary criteria for a vehicle this old.
This Ex only has 112,000 miles on it, and is in good condition with some small exterior blemishes such as a few paint scratches and a minor ding in the front bumper. Seems to be in good shape, and the only service record Carfax has indicates a coolant flush at 60,000 miles. The salesman told me that it would need tires in the next 10-20,000 miles, but the vehicle checklist indicates that one tires is below 3/32nds and the rest are between 4-6/32nds, so I'll be replacing them pretty quickly.
I'm budgeting a good $1,000 or more to bring this to the condition I want, and this includes servicing the front hubs, tires, transmission flush, t-case flush, radiator flush, and rear diff service. All the work will be done by myself of course, as I'm far too cheap to pay $100/hour for labor!
Welcome to the club. It always nice to add another Ex fan. Good luck with the upgrades, and ask questions if stuck. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here.
Looks good, congrats. Seems like a nice price as well !
I keep hearing about how rare this "deep wedgewood blue" is and in the past week between seeing trucks sold on this site and some driving around locally I counted at least 4 or 5 ! LOL

Its in Chelsea, AL which is something like a three hour drive for you. So unless you are up there for some other reason probably not worth it.
Yeah I was thinking if it was closer to here from BHam that the Subaru might need to stretch its legs but thats pretty far out there. Maybe post on the alabama chapter page? I know a lot of guys out there probably wouldnt mind doing it since you're coming from so far.
