This has to be the biggest pain ever. My truck was leaking at the #2 cylinder on the lower intake to head gasket. I almost have everything off except the front exhaust manifold because the very front bolt is hidden behind the alternator bracket or something. I took the alt out and then went to town on the bracket, but I couldn't get the lower left bolt out. So I then took off the air pump pulley so I could get a socket wrench in there. Am I going at it in the correct direction, or am I making it harder than it really is?
Any tips?
Thanks
Yeah, getting that alt./pump bracket off is "Fun."
Just get all that crap out of the way so that you can do the real work easier. I had to remove the air pump and loosen up the main alt. retention bolt before I could rotate the alt. up enough to get to the bracket bolts underneath.
However, I don't think you MUST remove that bracket to get to the exhaust manifold bolts...
I've got everything off and the whole job was "fun". I think it would have been easier to just pull the motor and then do it. I didn't know there were two bolts behind the alt and air pump bracket (thanks stoner). I'll get it all put back together next week sometime. My intake/exhaust gasket just fell apart when I took it off.
