Neal:
I've seen the prices in Birmingham increase from about $3.50 a couple months ago to a tad over $3.80. This is exactly what I expected to see following to fiasco at the Motiva plant in Port Arthur, TX a couple months months ago.
I've attached an updated article which talks about the investigation findings, and since that article, Shell (one of the two owners of Motiva) has announced that they expect to actually start back up in "early 2013".
Overall, though, it is difficult to find much being said in the news about the Motiva plant.

Find a BIO supplier, I paid .26 less a gallon last week than my local small Sunoco truck stop was selling regular #2 Diesel for!
MY LATE '99 all stock LOVES B99!! quieter, smoother, less offensive exhaust odor, NO adding extra lubrication additives....and I did say MY local BIO supplier was CHEAPER by .26 per gallon.......MY mileage is just a tad less (just under 1mpg) than summer blend #2

Just throwing out some numbers; however, bio may be costing you more than regular diesel depending upon the situation.
Let’s say for the sake of argument that diesel is 3.50 a gallon and you get say 12 miles a gallon depending upon how you drive, that equates to about 29 cents a mile so in reality you saving 26 cents a gallon and losing about 1 mpg is actually costing you more money than regular diesel.

really miss making bio- some of you may remember the write up i did a few years ago. we had it down to well under $1/gallon to produce. then ~4 years ago things started to change. Now:
1.) Magnesol D60, 50lb Bag (IF you can get it). 40l-50lb delivered will cost ~$150
2.) NaOH Lye. 50lb delivered will cost ~$125
3.) Methanol 99% has skyrocketed!! 55 gallons cheapest found will cost ~$300
***dudadiesel.com is about the only place left***
All of this together used to cost us ~$200. We can no longer get some things locally without proper licensing, and that is probably due to our proximity to the border. Considering the amount of time it takes, and these prices, we no longer found producing BIO to be in our best interest.
