So i was having issues with erratic voltage readings for the ficm main power on sc2. KOEO at 48v after start would drop to 43 then after a few mins back at 48. I had my alternator tested and the voltage reg was toast. OK, so that gave me an excuse to go down to BPD in mesa and pick up a new alt for cheaper than some of the remans at napa. While i was there i was asking about their products for a future fully bullet proof package and they took me in the back and showed me the system they run. NICE! i figured i would go ahead and pick up their ficm since i was there just in case the alt replacement didnt fix the erratic voltage readings. I know you guys swear by ed's, but i dont have that kind of time and to me he is just fixing an old problem. Got it in, checked the ficm again and sure as sh@t readings in the low 40's again. so i tore into it again and replace the ficm...quite an easy job. The differences in their board and case is huge....got it in and fired up with steady 48v with flickers of 47.5v. they also gave me a few shirts to wear....Bunch of nice guys down there and will look forward to upgrading soon.
Lucky guy! I would like to see one of their kits installed and watch some of the work in progress! Unfortunately up here, we have only a handful of shops that instal their product and from the ones I called they had only done one or 2 kits.... doesn't instill confidence in getting them to work on my pickup!
Did you get their upgraded one with their billet case and their own power supply board? Did you get the four channel or the six channel?
The big difference between theirs and Ed's is that Ed is working with the OEM PCB, making it as good as it can be. BPD designed a new power supply board. Years from now we'll know if their new board is worth the difference in price...
not to say anything bad about ed, but the case design was the seller, the board is beefier and it appears to be able to dissipate heat much more efficiently than the oem design from ford. since heat basically kills electronics i feel good about the purchase. i got the 4 phase version as i couldn't justify the extra 200 to get the 6 phase. they said you can run either 53 or 58v with the 6 phase and it has redundant circuits but is it really worth the risk? the only thing you do is swap your logic board and install on their power board....easy! i took side by side pics so i will try to post them later.
BDP seems to have outgrown there shop. Every time I have been over there, parking is pretty full.
Great bunch of guys over there that put out awesome products for us diehard 6.0 guys.
It is amazing how strong and reliable the 6.0L is with ARP and BDP.
