Help. I have a F150 1997 70000 miles. It is leaking anti freeze throught he head gasket. The truck rattles and vibrates really bad at 57 mph. The oil is fine and not milky. My buddy had the same problem at 75000 miles and the dealer said head gasket but he is also not to sure. Any way to know what this is without being scammed at a dealership? Is this common enough that there should be a recall? help
Thanks
Dave

Ford has had head gasket problems on the modular V8 right up to the early 2001 model engines. Currently there is a updated head gasket with new part numbers in inventory. Ford is doing head gasket jobs under warranty but when the engine is out of warranty you are SOL. In some instances leaking coolant has been known to get between the piston and head causing the head to bend out of tolerance. It's not common but it's not rare either. When the tech takes the head off it must be checked with a straight edge.
I think I screwed up the poll. When I first read it and voted. I read it as if it was asking if all trucks blow gaskets at 70K. I voted no since mine is pushing 80K and so far, so good.
After reading it again - as I now understand it, it asks, is this problem a head gasket? In this case, I think it is.
