Hood Vent

The vent that is on top of the hood in front of the windshield, is this suppose to have a rubber gasket or seal under it or not? When I raise mine up, it scratches the paint and dents the metal between it and windshield. What's it called and where to buy one if needed please, thanks. L8R ZFLASH

I believe you are talking about the cowl vent. You can get a gasket from any number of vendors, www.midfifty.com for one.

After re-reading you post I was wondering if you were talking about the cowl lacing that fits on the cowl just under the back of the hood?

That cowl vent is supposed to have a seal. Sounds like your linkage is bent since it is hitting the body when raising it.

See here.

Mid fifty Cowl vent seal- # 0902 $9.50
Truck Shop # 53-15731 $10.00
LMC # 41-1526 $8.69
A lot of the parts dealers have free catalogs.

If I had it to do over I wish I would had welded my up. The support arm which comes down to the dash is right where I would like to mount a radio.I plan to make a bracket to lock the cowl down so I can remove the support arm.

This is the cowl vent. It lets in a lot of good fresh country air along with the side vent windows. Sounds like you need the new seal, readily available several places. While you are installing the seal, make some adjustments and the paint won't scratch and the vent won't leak. A piece of paper slid between the vent and the seal helps make a correct adjustment.

Thanks for the info and pics guys,it's exactly what I'm talking about. I have to raise mine manually by hand from the outside, sometimes I pull it up to high and that's when it hits. Also, I've at times forget to shut it before raising the hood, it seems to get hung up on the hood even when it's closed. Thanks, L8R ZFLASH

That's my thinking in the future, but for now in Texas I need that air coming in.I'm in no hurry to install A/C, even with my Vette I hardly use the A/C,just take the top off. By the way, your truck is looking great and thanks for getting back to me on your hood. I wish you were closer so you could do mine , L8R ZFLASH

Alright here we go again, found the seal but by looking at the pics on MACS website I'm missing more. It seems the PO removed the lever that goes from the inside of cab that attaches to the vent, now all this is making sense. I just couldn't see having to keep opening this from the outside. Now what is this part called and how easy is it to install. Sorry, still learning about the truck. L8R ZFLASH
