Rear Gear ID

Looking at an '05 F-150 XL this afternoon with a 5.4 and factory tow package. Is there a way to ascertain the gear ratio and the presence of a T-Lok diff without crawling under the truck?

Vehicle has 100,000 miles. Anything I should check out in particular?

You can determine the rear gear ratio from the sticker on the drivers door jamb under Axle Code I believe. H9 which is a 3.55 and B6 which is a 3.73 are fairly common ones. Check out the ones below if it is not one of those.

19 — 3.55 non-limited slip (Econoline, F-150)
18 — 3.08 non-limited slip (F-150)
17 — 3.31 non-limited slip (Econoline)
H9 — 3.55 limited slip (F-150, F-250)
B6 — 3.73 limited slip (F-150, F-250)
24 — 3.73 (Econoline)
32 — 4.10 (Econoline)
35 — 4.09 (Econoline)
34 — 3.73 (Econoline)
39 — 3.55 (Econoline)
52 — 4.10 (Econoline)
56 — 4.10 (Econoline)
81 — 4.63 (Econoline)
