64 f100 engine swap
wondering if i change out my stock 223 in a 64 f100. can i bolt up a 302 to my stock 3 speed manual transmission. this is my first truck im trying to play with. i really need help on this. the 223 is knocking and wanting to possibly change motor out if i can keep everything else stock

Since this is your first truck, I would advise repairing the knocking engine. And if you must swap install the same engine. A conversion swap in an old truck is difficult and expensive. I say "fix what you have". It will be cheaper, more reliable and help maintain resale value. IMHO!

we are planning on pulling the oil pan sunday to see if it is something that we can fix without tearing down the whole truck. does that sound like it may be able to fix it that way. at idle there is no knock. when rpm rise its a really loud knock.

The 3 speed trans you have will not bolt to any 65 or later bell-housing. If you want a different engine it will also require a transmission change. Even if you went to a 292 a different bell housing is required and it must be for a three speed.
Sounds like a spun rod bearing. But pull the valve cover first and see if there is a bent push rod. The 223 is a mechanical tappet type cam.
