I thinking about getting the converter along with gathering parts for the motor build.

Updated list:
Ball joint
Front D-shaft
U joints
Gears
Spool
Tires
Headers
Transgo stage 2 shift kit
Shifter
Racing seat
5 point harness

Anything else?

Not that I can think of. That's a pretty substantial list though.

Ball joints, driveshaft and ujoints will be pretty easy/quick/cheap. Harness and seat won't be that bad either. Get a $40 plastic seat and a $60 non-sfi harness from Summit. The shifter and shift kit should be put last on the list- needed but not necessary to play. Tires gears/spool and headers will be your big ticket items. Keep your eyes open on Craigslist for tires and start saving for Mad dog headers and the bling daddy jet hot treatment. Also be on the lookout for a 4 series 44 carrier if you don't currently have 4.10 gears

Pretty much what Kris said.

I bought a used convertor from a guy off of 429-460 forget the brand right now, but it was a 3500 stall, it works good but being in 4lo i only get about 2600 out of it. My next one will be custom.

Get going U joints for the shafts not POS cheap dollar store aka advance ones.

Yeah, I have 3.50 now. Isn't the 4 series carrier for 3.92 and up?

Yes, 3.73-down is series 3, 3.92- numerically higher is series 4.

Where do you get yours?
My local Car-quest ordered me some spicier joints.

You can save a few $ by buying an empty carrier and swapping your spiders over.

Spicer life series joints ftw

Thanks Larry, that's not bad at all. I was figuring it was a little more.

OCD kicked in so I got lock washers for the u bolts. Probably going to pick up some for the coil spring bolts too.

I broke a u bolt for the rear u joint tightening it, when it broke my elbow slammed into the frame rail and I effed it up pretty bad. I'm surprised Aaron (my son) didn't learn some new curse words...
