1969 CV conversion started, 460 or 302
I have started the conversion of my 69 F100 to a Crown Vic front end. I have both engines available to me with C6 transmissions. Both need some work, but run in current condition. I will use the truck for a weekend rod, and once in a blue moon a little trailer pulling lawn care equipment. I'm leaning towards the 460 for little work = big torque, but I like the idea of the 302 having so many options for power at a cheaper build price. Whats some of your opinions?

I had a 302 in my truck with the CV IFS & now have the 460. Both will move the truck down the road just fine. I like the 460 better mainly because it has that muscle car feel when you step into it. With the 302 you do have far more available to you for far less money but you can warm up a 460 for under $500 that will run just fine. The 302 seemed to handle better (believe due to weight) than the 460 but that could just be me getting accustom to the heavier engine. I have started pushing it harder in the curves & it still holds the curves just fine.

There is no substitution for cubic inches. BUT, they are really, really heavy. With all the options available for a small block I would likely work on that idea.
Take your generic 302 and get a cheap 347 stroker kit. With just casual use, the stock block will survive just fine. Plenty of torque without the added 300lbs.
