If people are expecting a sustained 30 mpg out of a full sized truck then you my friends are on some non prescribed meds.
Part of the issue here is that people buy more truck than they need. Can you ever have too much truck? Yes, if you're concerned about fuel economy.
Who here really needs to tow 11,200 lbs? If not, then why do you need a 3.5L or 6.2L truck with 3.73 axles? Is this a testosterone thing or something?
Everyone here biched and moaned that Ford was lagging way behind in engine development and now look at you guys. You got not one but four great engines and it's still not good enough.
To those of you complaining endlessly and on multiple forums, I suggest that you go buy something from the competition. Ford clearly has nothing that you want.

Ford did hype this engine up more than it turned out to be.

But I would like to ask you, what would you consider to be acceptable fuel mileage for the ecoboost engine?
My friends call me Tim, you're welcome to do so.
I took delivery of my 2012 f-150 4x4 Supercab with the 6.5' bed this past Monday. It has the EB with the 3.55 gears. Also has the trailer tow package. I don't have enough time or miles on it to speak of performance or mileage. Bought it off the lot, but I wouldn't have bought it without the EB
I bought the EB specifically for the mileage, but the power and "workability" were important aspects. My truck is used for pleasure 95% of the time. However, when I want to hitch on a loaded trailer I don't want to "go over the hill at 35 mph in second gear" or borrow my neighbor's Ram.
As long as I get 15-20 mpg I will be a happy camper. Beats the daylights out of my '78 F-250 SCab 4x4 with 4.10's and a 460...

Truck in sig has 3.55 gears and my only mod is a folding bed cover. Was loaded with me, wife, 2 kids and two weeks worth of luggage and travel 'supplies'. Plus, I'm fat enough to count for 2 adults!

Now, before someone goes off and says "yeah, but that MPG was all flat-land", I present this unaltered picture showing fuel economy after finishing the trip. Drove from Tulsa, OK to central WA and back (crossing the mountains twice) with several days of driving in town while visiting relatives. Last trip was with a N/A engine that down-shifted & wheezed it's way through elevation. Hearing the turbos spin up and tackling the mountains in 6th gear had me grinning from ear-to-ear loving my new F150.
