Has anyone ever heard of "Tungsten Coated Injectors"? I have herad that sometime during the 99 production run Ford went to Tungsten Coated Injectors. What would the differenct be between these injectors and the ones that are in the early diesels?
What are the advantages of these injectors over the early ones?
Beginning with the 99.5 model year (starting with engine serial number 896812) all injectors have the barrel and plunger tungsten carbide coated to reduce the scuffing of those components. These injectors are only intercahagable with the earlier engines if you also use the later style H/P pump because they take more oil to run them. The H/P pump, therefore needs to be a higher displacement pump (from 6.8 cc per revolution to 7.2 cc per revolution).
Thanks for the reply Joe. So, really there is no huge advantage except for durability?
The production date on this truck is 5/98. Since this truck is a early run 99 I should be able to use these injectors? I'll have to check engine serial number and pump to verify though.
