This started about a month ago. I would start the truck and it would idle rough for a minute then smooth out, now it doesn't smooth out any more. Yesterday I checked the coils and they were all firing, I put a new air filter in and cleaned the MAF sensor, replaced the PCV and nothing helped. It's a F-250 V-10 with about 230,000 miles. Any ideas?
Dezrider i had the same problem with my 5.4l and it got worse and worse every week. But that was the cat. Now im having that problem on my other truck but its not getting worse just when i start it up in the mornings then goes away.
No idea whats causing the problem. If i figure it out i will update.
The way I was told to check my cat, was to take out the o2 sensors and start it, if you get more exhaust from the open holes than out of your tailpipe, it's most likely plugged.
Drive it for a short while up a steep grade to see if you gain power and that will tell you.
Upon inspection, I had one of the ribs break apart and completly plug the ones behind it.
Driving down the freeway today with the AC on the truck was pinging a little, almost felt like I was towing my boat or something. could a plugged Cat. do this? It doesn't feel the same as when one of the coils was bad. Fuel injector problem?
That's what happend to my one truck. It started out like that and got worse. I think its time to have the cat replaced before you have to have it towed. My truck got to a point I couldnt get over 25mph. I'm prolly going to have my mine replaced on my other truck now then.
