head bolts

when you take the 10 head bolts out of yur heads should they go back in the same spot or doesnt it matter?

Howdy! I've been takin' 'em out for 15 years and cleaning 'em and puttin' back in different holes....

Some blocks have short ones / long ones...I even swap those... the engine couldn't care less.... just make sure your tork 'em right...

Yup, laptop hit it on the uhhh, head.

The only exception to this are torque-to-yeild bolts which most newer engines have. These have to be replaced once they've been torqued.

I don't mess with the newer engines --- only engines with dizzy's on 'em. To be sure; the new-fangled engines of today I would need a refresher course on!!...

I guess I'm picky, but I like to replace all the fastners when putting money into a new engine. It costs about $175, but everything is new and I consider that one less worry about 20-35 year old bolts and nuts.
