Does anyone know of a Diesel engine builder/ diesel crate engine supplier or have worked with one before? I don't have a core to provide so I'm looking for something drop in ready.
I found a company "The Horsepower Shop" out of Fairview, PA.
They have some set ups that I'd be interested in but can't find a ton of information on them besides on "Alibaba.com".
I'll send someone in from around your area who may know what the better option would be. What truck are you looking to put the motor in, transmission you are hooking up to? My thinking, the Cummins does have the upper hand on after market parts and availability over the 7.3L
The truck is a '71 "High Boy". It had a 4 speed manual when I first got it, snapped the output shaft and destroyed the case so I swapped to a 3 sod auto that I already had.
I'd like a manual transmission again so I will most likely go that way. But I haven't looked into anything specific since I haven't chosen an engine.
I've been leaning towards the cummins (due to aftermarket availability, swap complexity and the weight savings) but I had an '02 7.3L Super Duty that, after a cold air intake and a more open exhaust, seemed to just crush all it's competitors, even the ones that had been chipped.
Thanks for the info, is Ponci's a Cummins specialist in particular?
I think the plan will be to salvage an and have it gone through and replace anything too warn and address any know problems with that type of engine.
I've done quite a bit of gas engine work but know relatively nothing about the diesel engines.
Have you heard of anyone in Southern California?
I'll be station at Camp Pendleton in a few months.
Besides SoCal Diesel, I've heard great things but I believe they only do Duramax.
the only 7.3L crate motor i know of is the "black mamba" but the info is a little sketchy! if you really want a good high quality cummins crate engine, then check out, "Industrial Injection" they have a good selection of cummins crate engines! you can read their add in October 2012 edition of Diesel Power magazine. but heres the link directly to the crate engines.
