Has anyone ever had this happen? I figured I would change the plugs, no big deal, right? The last plug to change snaps! The metal part of the plug, just below the nut part. I've been chisaling on it for about 6 hours. It was rusted and seized all around below the nut portion of the plug. I stuffed a cotton ball in the hole to catch the debris, but I'm not sure how I'm gonna get this out. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Dave
If you have a shop vac or a hose for your regular household vac, you can make a "nozzle" to suck as much of the stuff out as possible (short of pullung the head). Find a piece of tubing - maybe fuel hose-
and adapt it to the end of your vac hose. Probably gonna require lots of duct tape...... Just an idea.
I feel your pain, man. I know of a couple people who paid big bucks to have the lower part of a plug removed from a head, but I did have success once on my own. I shot the remains good with a penetrating oil after stuffing the hole with tape. I let the truck sit overnight. I took a cold chisel and tapered the end slightly, tapped it lightly in with a hammer and was able to back out the broken plug. Mind you it took some time and I didn't get it on the first try. Anyway, I hope this helps.
I went to ace hardware and bought an easy out kit. Then I took the easyout that fit the best and welded a nut to it. This allowed me to use my impact gun while applying a little heat. It came out after 5 minutes of heating and impacting. I kept the easy out with the end of the plug on it as a sovenier
Are you meaning the nut part that your socket goes onto broke off leaving the threads of the plug in the whole? I have had the top part snap off but that is no big deal...im a little confused.
