One for "You'se Guys" ?
A friend is considering this one, what do you guys think? (not my era of truck).
1953 Ford F100 Pickup Truck
Looks a bit sketchy, as I 'm always skeptical of those "Primer/bright red wheels/get-it-on-the-market -as- fast-as-possible" looking vehicles.Didn't even bother to mask off the headlight rings!
If anyone close to it can do a better up-close inspection, much appreciated.Any way, might be gotten for considerably less, as you can sort of tell from the add who wears the pants/panties in the family.

if I was in the market and anywhere near there, I'd check it out. saw a pretty wore out original go for 4500 here a couple weeks ago. can't tell if its a flathead? if not that would lower my offer a fair bit.

It's missing a lot of the small parts: door handles, mirrors, wiper arms, inside window crank handles, looks like the windows have started to fog around the edges. 3 arm star grill emblem is for 6 cylinder, running flathead 8 would be much more valuable. Since it is in OH, I'd assume the usually rot. Without examining the sheetmetal closely I'd say 3K is a more realistic price, less if there is a lot of bondo/rot.

Interesting! Yeah, if I were closer I would be checking it out myself. Some people can not figure out how to write an add, like what is important. If they have a "pretty solid" old truck, why not show pictures of the areas that make it a solid old truck. I would bet those multicolored paints covered up a lot of filler.

Steve, you should know it never pays to be a "nice guy" when a purchase of a car/truck is concerned. Anything wrong with it after purchase is going to be something YOU missed, and YOU should have seen!

Running and driving is good, but rot is probably the most expensive thing to fix so that would be my primary concern. $5,000 is not bad unless you have to spend $1,000 on patch panels and more on labor and or time to do the metal work.

You're right, Ross.I have always "couched" my opinions on vehicles, especially with family and friends.In the same way I'd never recommend someone take up motorcycling.Hate to have widow or crippled friend resent me for the rest of my life.As a married father of three, I've already experienced - and continue to experience - more than my fair share of resentment.

I guess I'm not the one to talk, I once committed the Cardinal Sin: I sold a used car to my boss. It was a Taurus that hadn't given me a lick of trouble for a year. Within 2 months it went thru a battery, a steering rack, brake calipers, a steering column, and at that point he traded it off. Believe it or not, he didn't hold it against me. He said.

I'd go look at it but, I have been really busy and from the pics its just a wast of my time, primer hides a lot. and $5,000 it should at least have the door handles on it!

What always scares me about "primer restorations" is this: You just don't know if they covered up good or bad things. Covering 5 paints with a coat of primer hides a lot of sins that will come back out some day. I know stripping costs time/money but covering it up doesn't make it much more valuable, IMHO. Without a close inspection and photos of the truck before the "primer job" I wouldn't go anywhere near his $5000. Too many hours of rot work spent uncovering rust that should have been cut out but instead was smoothed over and primered. Feel sorry for the guy but he really hurt the value IMHO.
