Hey all. New to the forums, and this sucks to be my first post here.
I had to drive through a couple feet of water yesterday to make it home. Water wasn't past the middle of the hubs or anything, I'm on 35" tires and 2" leveling kit and 2" blocks in the back to keep the rake the same since I do tow.
Anyways, I parked the truck and came back out about an hour or so later and the Low Range and 4x4 lights were on even though I never shifted out of 2x4. I smelled something like really hot brakes, but thought someone drove through the water in a small truck and got the clutch hot. I tried the neutral foot on the brake thing and nothing would work.
Went back out this morning and played with it some more. Finally I popped the hood to check out the relays since it was mentioned here when I was browsing. I figured out what the smell was, and also why it won't change out of 4 Low. The relays somehow managed to get wet and shorted out. The entire relay block is melted and the wires going to it.
I'm supposed to tow my 24' trailer on Friday, so this has to get fixed. Are there any places you guys know of that would carry that harness? It goes from the relay box to the first (from the front) distribution block next to the driver battery to the transmission and transfer case. I'm terrified to price this from the dealer.
It's a 2006 F-250 Lariat Crew Cab 6.0L
If someone has it here, I'm a certified Paypal account holder and will pay to have it overnight shipped. Thanks all!
Go to carpart.com. they are basically all the junk yards on line. Thay will ship as well. Pay more for overnight but i am sure you can find something on there. Go to yhe last page that is darker and it will be cheapest. Might help. Get alot of parts that way.
Get the numbers off the relays and you can purchase those at any automotive store. Pull the wiring out of the back of the hardshell and replace any burnt or melted connectors, plug them into the relays without the big plastic hardshell and make sure they go onto the same relay pin that you took out of the hardshell. Cover with some electrical tape untill you can locate the hardshell and you should be good to go. The hardshell is the big plastic square piece that holds the wiring in it's allocated spots.
Thanks for all the replies. It ended up being $160 from the dealer, which wasn't too awfully bad. I went ahead and ordered it and installed it today. Triple checked all the connectors and then reinstalled the battery.
Still stuck in 4 low. At least I know the harness is good. Anyone have any ideas as to why it may be still stuck in 4 low?
