So i just put in a 84 302 in my 77 f100 and it seems like the top end power is wayyyyy better than the bottom end, like the 40-60 is way faster than the 0-20 or the 20-40, any reason why??

302 is a short stroke, high reving/rpm engine. Short stroke = no torque; therefore, not bottom end. It makes it power when is really wound up at about 4500 rpm.

If you are looking for max performance with the 302, shorter gears (or higher numerical ratio) may be needed to get the most from its high RPM power. 4.10's would be a good starting point. Fuel mileage may suffer with shorter grears.
