Coolant additive question...

I'm at the dealer right now... Nitrates are low, their adding the Motorcraft coolant additive... Question is: how much additive? Tech says 4 oz per gallon of coolant, so on a 6.4, it's 50/50 mix, 4 gallon capacity, so 8 oz? Bottle says 4 oz per gallon of system capacity... But it also says "unless engine specs call out differently." do these engines require a different amount of additive?

Thanks

This is the formula depending on nitrite level.

1 pint/per 4 gallon 0-200 nitrite level

2 pints/per 20 gallon 500 nitrite level

1 pint/per 20 gallon 800 nitrite level

the ideal nitrite level is 1200

when nitrite level reaches 4000 it's time to flush cooling system.

The 6.4's hold 30.6 gallons of coolant. Is he saying 4oz of additive for each gallon of coolant or each gallon of 50/50 mix coolant. Big difference in an engine with a capacity of over 7.5 gallons.

The engine coolant capacity is only 24L... Plus radiator capacity is Probobly around 30L? Not gallons?

The cooling system on a 6.4 is 30.6 quarts or 29 liters.

So I really 32 oz of additive based on bottle instructions.

Actually it's what the test strip shows in nitrite levels that will determine as far as adding or flushing.
