GVWR = Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. This is the weight of the vehicle, driver, passenger and cargo load the truck is designed to safely carry.
Max Towing Capacity: The is the maximum weight of the trailer and load on the trailer that the truck is designed to carry.
Maximum GCWR = Max Gross Combination Weight Rating. This is the maximum weight the truck is designed to carry and pull.
Tounge weight is the weight the trailer and its load places on the ball attached to the bumper or hitch. This should be about 10% of the trailer weight and trailer load weight.
Lets see if I understand all of the numbers that I can see. I can just ignore the numbers stamped onto the bumper because I don't have a ball on the bumber. I have the frame mounted hitch under the bumper....and I should ignore the numbers printed on the hitch becuase they should be generic to the hitch.
Since I have a 2008 Ranger Sport 3.0, 4.10, auto trans, supercab, 6 ft, styleside , 4X2, i should be able to tow 2,240 lbs as long as the total weight of the tow and everthing else (truck, people, cargo) doesn't exceed 6000lbs. Correct?
You got it. Your hitch should hava tag on it indicating the load capacity of the hitch. If that weight exceeds the capacity of the truck, use the truck capacity as your maximum tongue weight.
