I am getting ready to replace my water pump in my 1972 F250 4x4 with a 390 . I was wondering if there is anything else I should do while I have the room.? Any ideas?
Thanks.
1. Replace the lil 2-inch long hose btwn the water pump and the intake manifold. Might want to inspect the nipples for corrosion cuz sometimes it can be extreme.
2. Clean and paint the bolts, brackets, and pulleys
3. Chase all the thread holes
4. Paint the new water pump
5. Inspect the V-belts for dryrot and cracks. Replace 'em if necessary
might as well check Tstat , if an old engine i pull Tstat and run garden hose water thru engine to flush out rust /ccrap . you'll be shocked at what comes out .
420, Any time I have to do this I add 2 more hose clamps as a way to keep the hose from expanding. Or to really bullet proof it mount the pump and measure the gap betweem the pipes, cut a piece of 1/2 " hard drawn copper water pipe and insert it into the hose , remove the pump and position the clamps to make it a solid piece after the pump is installed. You have not lived untill you have one blow out on a nice warm day!

Awesome responses guys thank you!! I just got this truck so Its the first chance Ive had to really start to clean her up. The pump works and looks great. Im guessing from the amount of play and grinding in the old one that I replaced an original. So the truck is happy as am I and thanks again for all the great ideas!
