so my girlfriends brother just sold his 01 dodge diesel and he's looking for a F250 SD! Smart kid huh? Anyways i know all the regular what to look for like ball joints etc. I just have a few questions, what year did Ford fix the spark plug issues again 2002? Did the gas trucks have the problem with the transmission diode thing and didn't they fix that in 2002 also? Other then this I'm good with all the other stuff, since Ive been through it with my 2004
I thought they fixed the popping plug issues in 2000 (2 valve engines) and the 2 piece plug problems in 08 (on the 3 valve engines). Also I think the automatic trans in the 05 plus trucks are a bit better than 4r100's.
05 and up trucks will be a torque shift, they also got the 3 valve 5.4's and v-10's 03-04 6.0's also got the torque shift trans where the gas trucks didnt.
Geez, you beat the kid in one race and he sells his truck??
Only issue w/ the Torqshifts is in 2005, the very early build dates had a bad snap ring on the reverse gear that can come loose and exit through the case. Believe it was fixed by March of 2005 so there's only a few months that had it. Ford did a recall of sorts but it was only for snowplow prep equipped trucks. The 3v engines up until 2008 have the sparkplugs that like to stick in the heads.
I remember you saying you didn't like the coil spring front ends though so if you advise against those then all of the above is moot.
LOL guys i have no idea what happened after we raced. He was drafted last winter to play professional hockey in Canada so he was only here to visit his mother for a week, after we raced he left and went back home to Canada for summer training again. I guess he got his feelings hurt or something because he called me yesterday and said he sold his truck for 13k and he wants a SD like mine, kinda talked to him about V8 vs. V10, etc but he's young still and doesn't really care about all that and besides its not like he's going to keep the truck for ten years either. And again he only has 13-14k to play with and around here a clean 2004 ext cab F250 is going for 15-18k so a clean 01 or 02 is all he can afford. I did find a super clean 2002 lariat ext cab with only 60k so his mother and me our suppose to look at it tonight so ill let your's all know. Thanks for all your responses guys!
