Hey guys, first post, lurked for awhile and decided to join, I have a 1997 Ranger and since I bought it I have had heater problems, at first it would only blow hot air and I could change it from the vent to defrost and to the floor but couldn't control the temp, and while it was doing this I could use max AC and it would work and get cold, but if I went to regular AC it would blow hot air, then it got to where it was always on the defrost and hot air even in max AC, I found a vacum hose leak and not the max AC works again, but I still can't control the temp and it only goes from defrost to vent, can't get it to blow on the floor, I hope you guys can help me out with this.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have some 1972 3/4 ton trucks I will be doing on a project and I will post them when I start them.
Sounds like your blend door is broken. That happened to my 98 Ranger, which was the reason that I joined this forum in 2004. From advice and directions found on this forum, I fixed mine for the cost of a small finish nail and a small tube of super glue. (a few scraped knuckles too, its a tight fit for big hands) Some people say that the fix is only temporary but I'm still waiting for mine to fail.
Thanks for the info Dan, I will see if I can find that info on here, that would explain the temperature controler, but do I still have a vacum leak because it won't switch the heater to plow on the floor? it goes to the defrost or the panel but not to the floor.
There are a bunch of vacuum connections under the hood that control the heater. I have not had any problems with mine, yet. I did have trouble with the resistor under the hood that caused my fan motor to only have two speeds, fast and slow.
