brakes proportioning?

Ok, I took a new master cylinder and it has 2 sizes of hoses on the thing. Since my pickup has a newer rerend with a larger bore cylinders for the brakes, would it be a good idea to run the larger line to the back?

Clayton,

Not necessarily. It would be a good idea to run it just as it was intended on the donor vehicle and go from there. A lot of people put lots of different masters on these trucks and get by with it with no additional tweaking of the proportioning valve.

I see alot of newer stock vehicles that have the front resevoir going to the rear, and the rear resevoir going to the front. I am also thinking the fitting size doesn't have much to do with the bore size. The lines seem to be the same, it's just a different size nut. And I am sure most of you have gone to the auto store to get a master cylinder, and sometimes it will have a brass adapter to change the line size to fit your vehicle.

Dave is correct about the lines crossing front to rear. If the size of the master cylinder reservoirs are unequal, the larger one will usually drive the front brakes.

Clayton-
If you have a Speedway Catalog they have a "Brake System Tech Tip" with diagram on page 41 that is a good reference. Would probably also be in their on-line catalog at www.speedwaymotors.com. Hope it helps.

The larger reservoir is for the front disk brakes. They require more volume. The lines are probably the same size. The factory used different size nuts to make sure an assembly line worker didn't get them backwards.
