dumb aussie phaser install fail please helllp yanks!
yes ive stuffed up ive had a spew and a cry,now figuring out what to do next
5.4l 3vm vct.
i marked the phasers and chains next to the r and the L,arrow.
usa drivers side unbolted phaser and the cam moved by itself.i only noticed when trying to install the new phaser so i dont know which way it spun
so i spun the chain on/with phaser to the hole on the cam went straight on.so ive forgoton to mark the cams itself on both..
usa passenger side ,undid phaser cam spun ,this one wouldnt go straight on so i spun the same as the other one .but it spun round nearly completly around before the phaser slipped on.
bolted all back together.
tried to start and guess what ,
turn over 2 secondsto hear 3 or 4 metalic piston to valve noises on the passenger side.likely ive put the usa passenger side cam timing out by putting it in th wrong cam hole?/possible?.
if thats the case can i just take off the phaser spin it back to the marks i made then spin anti to the other hole and pray for unbent valves?.
any help would be really awesome ,im broke and not working because of a inoperable brain tumor.i bought the car with my measly life insurance pay outso my family had a safe car to be in.
started knocking and ticking 3 days after i bought it ,no warranty.
any how i didnt realise i wouild mess it up . it had heaps of sludge and carbon caked on everything to.
you know what they saynever asume it makes an *** of u and me .lol
these 3vm triton engines are fairly rare in australia ,they came out in 4 or 5 vehicles over 2 years( fairmont ghia,fairlane,ltd,iirc early xr8s and rtv ute).
we call them" barra".we call the 4v dohc "boss"
i cannot buy a workshop manual over here.
you guys have a car parts scene to envy seriously!

install around $1000 aud.

24hrs odd labour for excruciating back pain
already bought ,pz14f plugs and granatelli coils,spose i will starain the oil and reuse that cause it was new $90 oil
I would disassemble and verify timing again. If you want to verify your marks on the 3V its about 140-150 turns from start to finish. I went through that and just removed and reinstalled. Its easy to verify piston on TDC and both valves closed on number 1 so you know your on the right location with your chains and cam. Good luck hoping there is no damage.

i spent easy $2,500 on parts already.
twin stainless exhaust $ 575 old exhaust full of holes this was cheapest exhaust i could find
cats $200 cheapest i could find
$700 on coils,plugs,phasers from summit cheapest i could find except the coils were in the middle
plus oil,transmission fluid ,filters auto ,air,fuel,coolant,belt tensioner
bank balance now $100
car is insured for $10,000.
if i got the missus to burn it i would break even

just kidding i could never intentionally hurt a ford
or break the law.my long lost bro richard is comming up on thursday to help me get the covers off again.
im going to see the hospital tonight about the nervous breakdown that insued the phaser fail.
should have bought enough meds before i started on the car and stranded myself for days...
who'd have thought a cover bolt could take an hour to undo
cant eat, cant sleep ,teary ,puking ,cold,cant think properly.
dads like dont worry, i should be able to lend you the money in a month .

so ive spun it past the hole more than once or got it on the wrong hole?
1)disassemble, then spin chain on phaser off cam anti till i reach to my marks.
2)which cam hole do i use ?closest anticlockwise hole?
3?) since i cranked the engine and the cam moved in the first place, will i have to do any thing to the cam itself?
or does setting tdc fix that issue and once i have the phaser vs chain in the right spot i would be able to spin to tdc ??.

dont spin it till it fits idiot spin it till it fits when the marks line up again.
or used a cam holder or some cam marks or even used the knowledge i already have from changing cam in my falcon or even spun it before i turned it
