PTO - looking for Info

I am looking to bolt on a PTO to my...

1991 F250 pre powerstroke diesel 7.3 L 5 speed manual (4 + OD).
Not sure the transmission make/model.

Anyone have any expereince with a PTo attachment onto the transmission?
Anyone have any tales to tell, or pitfalls in doing this?

Its a pretty straight-forward installation. there is a cover on the right and left side of your tranny held on by 6 bolts. That is where the pto goes.
The new pto should come an assortment of gaskets that are various thicknesses(so the pto gears are the correct distance from the tranny gears).
Any heavy truck parts dealer should be able to sell you a PTO.

Ok, so last night I checked it out....
Looks pretty easy to install. Thanks for the info on the gasket thickness, cause mine came with no gaskets at all. I would have just sealed it with RTV and wondered why it was grinding.

My transfer case does not have a plate. I think that landcruiser t-cases have a plate.

Now, my truck has a single exhaust, so I got that cross member exhaust pipe that looks like it could give me trouble. Any ideas on the route of the pto shaft.

The plan is to have one hell of a snow auger on the front so I can throw some snow. Also, in the summer, a winch. Also on the front.

Should I try and keep the pto shaft (yet to be constructed/bought) tight to the truck, or can I let it drop down 10 inches or so?
Any ideas?

If you are worried about space, get the adapter that lets you bolt the hydraulic pump right on the back of the pto. Then you wont even have to worry about a shaft.
