I have a 2000 4x4 V10 and I'm bout to put new tires and wheels on. What do u guys recommend for an alignment. Firestone has the lifetime alignment, normally $179 and said can do it for $159. Sears here has 3 different warranty levels ranging from $79-$159, but no lifetime. U think the lifetime is worth it on our rigs? Tks!!
I am not a fan of Firestone Car Centers. Reminds me to much of Stealerships. I won't give my money to a shop that has me make an appointment to bring in my vehicle and then it sits there waiting for them to get around to it. My time is worth a lot more then that.
Sears Auto Center has always treated me right. Years ago I had alignment done on my F350 and they suggested I get one of my tie rods replaced. I went and had it replaced by someone else and Sears realigned it for me for free even though I told them I had the part replaced elsewhere. That's customer service.
I have used firestone for years and no issues yet. I did buy the free lifetime alinement and have them put it on the rack every time I get the tires rotated, which is free also. I think its worth it. IMO That way the front end is always being looked at and they do a cheesy what ever point inspection.
I use a Brake Check not too far away from my house. They also have the lifetime alignment and it especially paid off when I rebuilt the front end. It took a few tries to get it right but they did right by me.
Just had mine aligned today actually, they were even nice enough to lube the front end no charge...
How often do you guys check the alignment? Ous was supposedly aligned when we bought it almost a year ago and I'm noticing now that the inside tread on the front tires is significantly more worn than the outside.
I personally "check" mine regularly and have it aligned as needed. Check steering alignment, straight line drifting or "pull", any deviation from straight when braking and as you've discovered, any irregular tire wear. These are all indications of an alignment or suspension problem.

Yep. Had same thing with mine.
I keep tire pressure 60 front 65 rear after an
alignment wearing even now.
Well I got my alignment done today. Ended up going to sears. I got their 3yr warranty one. Same price as the lifetime at Firestone. I just like the ppl better at sears. I was only a lil toe out. I'll get it rechecked every 3-6 months just to keep an eye on it.
any idea if Sears will put on tie rods, ball joints, pitmans etc - and then do an alignment? I guess it turned out well for you...I need to do this - and I am looking at the best place to do it. Seems like there are no specialty shops near me that I can find.

I don't know your town/city but I would find a front end shop that does tires ,etc for a living not a big store like sears that is trying to sell you an espensive warrenty! Most front end shops will give you a warrenty on their work instead of selling you one. Once you find them check them out on the web see what is being said about them. If they have only light complaints then they may be good to business with. Just remember no one can pease every one!
Make sure to find a shop that can fit the excursion.. i have the multi-year alignment deal at a local tire place. But i have to visit the location 18 miles away for the alignment, my local store's machine is too small..
I have it checked when i feel it is needed, or after hitting big pothole(s)
