I'm at my wits' end. I've got serious shake going on in the right front. I ordered new wheel bearings on the advice of a few people but can't figure out how to replace them. Been working on tractors, trucks, boats my whole life and this is embarrassing. '82 F150 straight 6, 4wd, standard trans.
Wheel bearings dont generally cause shaking. Most likely, a bad tire. It is really hard to tell a lf shake from a rf shake, check runout on both tires. I cant remember exactly what setup your caliper is... does it have slide pins that you can drive out?
Did a little looking. you should have these caliper slides, one on each side. There is a bolt that keeps them from sliding out. remove the bolt, then drive the slide out with a punch. The caliper will lift off after the pin is removed.
Pay attention to how the 2 parts of the slide go, the spring clip just sits on the slide and they will fall apart once you get them driven out.
bashby, thank you very much for the pic. I'm almost positive it's right front. I swapped left rear and right front tires and still have the same problem. Someone else, (here I think) said they thought it was the bearing. I will make sure it's not the LF tire tomorrow before I tear into it.
