oil pan removal

1980 f100 351w 2wd.

Is it possible to get the oil pan out without removing the motor? It looks to be really close if I jack the motor up all the way, but I just wanted to see if an of you guys have got away with it.

thanks, Bernie.

Some say you have to disconnect the trans and slide it back some.

Side note,.... I have done it with the trans attached on a Fox chassis Capri with a 351w. Not fun but possible.

It is doable. By the time you get the engine high enough to get the pan off, there's not much left to unhook and just pull the engine out.
Granted, it is a bit easier than doing this same task on a 79 or older 2wd, as they have a front sump pan that sits right above the crossmember........

I did it on my old 300 I6, but the pan was much shorter towards the front than it is on my 400. I couldn't imagine trying it with my 400.
