Edge back up camera

Im getting an edge insight cts and wanted to know a couple things. Those with a back up camera for the edge what brand did you get?I was looking at a boyo camera on ebay.I plan on using it for the back of my travel trailer.I will just run a long run of cable up to the connections, which brings me to my next question.I want to have this camera always available, not just in reverse. How and what could I connect to specifically.Im thinking something with power all the time when key is turned? Tapping into fuse box? Or is there someting on the 7 pin I can tap? Also is there anywhere in the firewall to snake the rca wire into the truck to the edge?

Anyone know where I can easily access a 12v keyed power source in the rear of our trucks for power to back up camera?Does the seven pin have one?

Ok,so the 7 pin connector has a keyed 12 volt wire... I confirmed it with volt meter and test light.. Any reason why I shouldnt connect my back up camera to this wire? I want a constant picture on camera not just reverse. Camera only draws 50 ma of power..If this was my old 7.3 I would just do it... But I dont want to mess something up on this one... Thanks

no one joining because I think you r into new territory. I might double check your edge papers to see if the camera input is always on instead of reverse only.

They want you to tap into reverse lights for power for safety, meaning the camera only gets power when put into reverse. So I want to tap into a keyed always on power source to have the camera on whenever I want to.. Im just gonna go head and tap the seven pin..

I would make sure that the camera can operate for extended periods of time, since you want it to operate when you choose to, not just in reverse. I'm interested in this also, as I'd like to be able to turn it on to check my towed load at times.

on my CTS it has an option in settings to select the camera even when it is not in reverse, I haven't tried it while driving but I will and report back later today.

Yes ive researched this already and the guys that have the edge insight say they just go into settings and select always on or something similar and it works all the time... But....... Your camera has to be supplied by an always on or keyed on power source, not tapped into reverse lights power...

I think its much easier just to run a 1 foot line to tap the 7 pin and still have the ability to have it on all the time through the edge... Ill have the camera by tuesday and see if it works like I think it will...

Well you providing a lot of people who want to do the same thing a lot of good info here. Let us all know how your set up works. All who tow are always in need of more cameras. Im waiting to see how pin 7 works. I want to put a camera on the back of my toyhauler, or even on the roof so I can avoid tree limbs if that is possible, and have the edge for viewing all the time, not just in reverse. In my 07 truck, I tapped into my reverse parking light, so that I could turn the camera on by just turning on the parking lights, it was fast and easy.

I was able to drive the truck today, you can go to settings and select camera and it stays on until you touch the screen again. I think it will work perfect for what you guys are looking to do.

Installed mine today... Works just as noted above.. Tapped the 7 pin for keyed power.. Goes on automatically when put into reverse and if I go into settings I can turn camera on while driving.. I bought a boyo camera off ebay ,nice unit.Looks slick.

Same here but I bought the "Bravo View" license plate camera from Walnuts. Only because I've read a number of good reviews on it. Seems to be good quality. It came with a long mini-coax with RCA's and power lead so I'm planning to route the cable up to the Edge instead of tapping into the harness that's in the truck. I don't know where the monitor end of the factory camera cable is, but I think it's above the OH console. By the time I dig it out, identify the correct pins and still have to run a wire above the headliner, I can have the camera cable in place.
