New guy
I am a mechanic by trade (airplanes) but love to work on cars, trucks, tractors, skid-steers.....well you get the picture. I am 50 years old, too old to be working on this stuff but I enjoy it too much to stop.
I love the forum and have used it for Ranger info, but have not posted. I am about to get the F700 ready to go on the road so I am going to need some help. I have had it a couple of years. I have a buddy who needed it removed from his yard because it was "not fixable" according to his old mechanic. Did not take too long to get it fired up and drive it around his house. Just needed someone willing to fix it.
OK that is my story. The rest is me thinking out loud about some future post. All the problems I mention would make a really confusing post to try to answer, but I will post each one separately as I start to deal with them.
When I started it up and drove it around my buddies house he was pretty happy to see it could be fixed but gave me the truck anyways. The real problem was someone had borrowed it and tried to raise the bed with a load of reground asphalt on one side and bent the crap out of the bed rails and lift frame. I have cut all that out and welding in new steel, but need to get the hinge point finished.
I do not know what motor is has but assume it is a 330/361 or something in that area. I hope all those used the same cap/rotor/wires/points. I plan on taking the old parts with me to get the new parts.
The brake master cylinder has is a single bowl which I am not a big fan of after going through a toll booth in OKC years ago when I broke a brake line and had no brakes. (In a 66 tri-power Charger)
I have a leaking wheel cylinder that I know AutoZone will have no idea how to look up.
Cab is awesome as far as rust but nasty as far as rats tearing the insulation out of everything and spreading it everywhere.
I am not real impressed with the 20' foot choke cable that runs the dump. Is that a reliable system or have people replaced it with rods, or electric solenoids?
As I said, I will make some individual post as I tackle each problem. I just wanted to introduce myself and get you thinking. I am sure I will find some of my answers as I start going through old post.

Does your truck have a Hydro-vac system? This will need to be all upgraded if you want a new dual system. Large trucks do not modify the same as the light duties.
The Wheel cyl should still be available just not at Auto-zone. ND will come along and post a part number and anyone that may have some.

'Course, no chain autoparts store will have parts for 57 year old BIG trucks listed on their computers. You'll have to get the partsclucks to look in their paper parts catalogs, usually stashed under the counter.
I have to look up the wheel cylinder p/n in the specific brake parts list. The problem is that the OP didn't say which wheel cylinder is leaking, nor whether it's a front or rear.
The other problem is: 1965 F700: There are 3 possible sizes of front brakes: 14 x 2 1/2 / 15 x 3 / 16 x 2 1/2. Three different parts lists.
6 possible sizes of rear brakes: 15 x 4 / 15 x 4 1/2 / 15 x 5 / 15 x 6 / 15 x 7 / 16 x 5. Four different parts list.
I need the AXLE code stamped on the Warranty Plate to determine front/rear axle weight capacites.
Same points/condenser/rotor/cap: 1958/73 all V8 FoMoCo vehicles (except HiPo's with dual point dizzies). Ditto 1974/75's without DuraSpark electronic ignition.
1964/78 FT plug wires same as 1958/76 FE plug wires.
Hydro-Vac = Remote mounted power brake booster, usually located on left (drivers) side frame rail.
The VIN is N70MU648758, or that is what was written down. I can check the truck if that one does not make sense. It sure doesn't have enough numbers, but may be the age.
I just had a nice shop with a car lift built on my property with high walls so I could raise a car all the way up with no clearance issues. What I failed to do was have a high enough door installed to put this truck inside. May need a shop mod before it is all over.

Look on the title/registration and the Warranty Plate, compare the VIN's to see if they match.
N70 = N700 (gas) / The cab is mostly the same as an F series, but everything forward of it...is different.
M = 330 2V Heavy Duty FT engine.
U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant.
648758 = 1965, assembled February 1965.

Guess I have some more research to do in my journey to get this thing on the road.
Thanks for the great info!!!

If you wish, ask a mod to move this thread there, or I'll do it for you.
If this is an N700, I'll edit out all brake references to F700's in post 3, replace with N700 info.
Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, it's somewhat common here on FTE for members that own BIG trucks to confuse one series with another.
I've been looking up parts for FoMoCo vehicles for 50 + years (how old did you say you were?
) and will continue to do so until the day I croak.

AS for the 50 years old thing, I feel like a cripple old man most days, but still get way more done than my younger counterparts. My dad was machine at 50 and I have no idea how. He smoked like a freight train and did not eat anything without a pound of salt and pepper on it, and would say "NO I DO NOT WANT THE FAT TRIMMED OFF". He also weighed less than 150.
I can really use this truck if I get it going. I normally use a truck with a car trailer to move stuff, but this would be shorter overall and haul a lot more weight.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Welcome to FTE!

Lots of great guys and help in the large truck forum. I'll move ya over to the big boy truck forum now...........
Brakes: My dad used to just pull the entire hub, duals, drum and all. Don't let that fall on you.
Bed and hoist: You wouldn't be 50 if you engaged in unsafe work practices, but may I redundantly suggest that you use at least two supports when working under the bed with the hoist up.
That thing have a two speed rear axle?
Good advice on not working under a raised lift. I had a buddy refuse to work under a similar load and right after everyone gave him grief and he refused to do it something broke loose and the load landed right where he was supposed to be laying.
I was shocked it does not have the two speed rear end. My dad had a C60 Chevy that did he used as a welding truck many years ago.
I will have to see the hub and all come off. I remember seeing my dad do it on an old IH I think but if I remember right the axle came out with it. Been a lot of years.

That nut requires a rather large wrench, and of course, by dad didn't want to spend--iirc--$55 for one. So he made several, as there were several sizes depending on the various trucks he had.
But first lets see some pics of the beast and then pic's of each thing yer working on. Other will benefit from it also.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.
While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg
Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).
When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).
Your pic will be placed in the post.
Hope that helps.

When I get done with my rat killing this morning I will see if I can get that tag number off the rear end.
Thanks again for all the help!
