Looking to buy a set or single tool that's useful for repairing/replacing terminals in Ford wiring harness connectors. There's a ton of sets and so-called universal tools but which one(s) really are useful and work well?
I think I'd seek out a GOOD electronic store locally and ask for advise. Much better than on-line buying in the dark. These stores are usually locally owned (not a chain store) and are frequented by the local area electronic repair shops.
Sadly the locally owned electronics stores rest with the dinosaurs---anyone other than me remember when Radio Shack was a great source of parts, HeathKit too? Since the terminals and connectors for automotive tend to be a bit specialized there isn't a lot of compatibility, at least as far a the larger higher capacity connections. I'm thinking most electronics stores would have tools better suited to PCB connectors.
Buying in the dark or online isn't my first choice but I'm hoping someone else has already been there, done that and I can learn from their experience.
Someone linked this site a while back: Ford Clips And Fasteners
The thread was more about the complete repair connecters, but I see they do have crimping tools, though pricey. I had a crimper from radio shack years ago that worked really well and was cheap... here it is, I think: D-Sub Pin Crimper - RadioShack.com
