How can you tell if its a d50 or a d60. I have a 79 f250 and it has a good d44 in it and i want to put a d60 in it. I was at the scrape yard today and A 84 f350 looked to have a d60 with king pin front.. It had the cap on the top ball joint with the 4 bolts and grease fitting. But was told it was a solid d50. Can anyone help me with this and if it is a d50 or a d60 will it fit my79 Thanks.
D50 started in '99. 99 and up 50 and 60 are pretty hard to tell apart. 84 F350 will be a king pin dana 60 if I remember correctly. the ttb trucks used a 50 center.
If you think its a D50 I'd pull the cover and measure the ring gear before proceeding.
BTW an 84 won't fit your truck without out boarding the leaf mounts.
An '84 F350 came from the factory with the D50 TTB front end so whatever it is that axle is not original to that truck. A D60 would have been the easiest swap into it but it may have the '99+ SD D50. The lug pattern is different on the superdutys than the previous trucks so that would be one way to tell. I don't recall what they are but the SD is a metric pattern.
Oh.. I looked it up and I guess DRW ones did too starting in like 85... dunno wtf drw trucks had till then, surely duallies didn't have ttb's? getting off topic but. oh well.

Don't know for sure but I think they did. The 2wd's did all the way through '97.
