Under Hood Lamp question

I picked up one of these last year at the JY and now I want to install it on the newer hood I'm planning to install. What does the hood-to-firewall ground strap look like? Can I make this part myself and where does it go? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is yours the retractable kind, like mine is?

If so, it has a short wire just long enough to attach between the lower mounting tab and the hood. Just make sure there is enough bare metal for it to make a good ground connection.

Yes, it looks like that. It has 2 wires coming out side by side. One wire is grounded to the hood but an old post I had saved mentioned a third wire referred to as a hood-to-firewall "ground strap". That's the information I'm looking for.

That's awesome, gotta get one for my truck.

Is it a factory option? What years and models were they on?

I guess the wreckers would be the best place to get one?

If you are talking about the Underhood lamp, yes it was a factory option.

The underhood lamp came with either the courtesy lamp group, or with the underhood tool box.

Models equipped were:

1980-1983 F-100.
1980-1986 F-150/F-350 and Bronco.

If you are talking about the Firewall to Hood ground strap.
It came with a factory Radio, or the underhood lamp.

Thanks guys.

I've already got the ground strap! Gotta remember to look for the light next time I'm at the wreckers.

I bought one once that was installed on a Jeep Cherokee or some such. Made by ITT and is the exact same thing as the Ford one but without the oval trademark.

Just giving you other places to look....

Thanks everyone for the information and especially the pictures rbalsinger . I'll keep my eyes on the lookout at the JY. Good to know the optional sources such as the Jeep and higher end trucks.
