Howdy all,
My question is probably real simple and I'm just missing the answer. I own a '90 F-150 with the Mazda 5 speed tranny. Is there anyway of finding out how many splines are on my axels without tearing the rear end down? I'm interested in putting in a trac- loc in and don't want to buy the wrong one. I looked at Summit's site and was left with this question.
I thank anyone who can point me in the right direction.

I'm 99% positive that it's going to be a 31 spline axle. As far as I know, trucks/vans came with 31 spline and the mustangs, thunderbirds, cougars... etc were all 28 spline.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I did the same as Mustang, and got mine off of ebay for about 50 bucks. I also got a 3.55 ring n' pinion set there for another 50 bucks, and just got it installed yesterday. It actually went a lot smoother than I ever expected. Got it all meshed up right the first time!! Now to get a new speedo gear.

Thanks a bundle for the info guys. I figured it had 31 splines but was afraid that Ford's engineering staff put too much thought into this part of the trucks. Kinda like the front coil springs.
I'd seen some rear end parts on eBay, but hesitated to get one since there was no telling how much abuse the things had gotten in the past. If you folks have had good luck then I'm game to try. When your married with children, any money saved is good!
