I have an 88 e-150 with the straight six. It has very high miles the odometer reads 36k , I am not sure if thats 136 , 236 or what.
Anyway, it stalls out when its first started. It idles up then down and stalls out. You can give it a little gas to keep it from stalling , let it run , then it's ok.
This was happening always at start up . I changed the plugs, cap & rotor, now it usually happens when it's warm. It did stall the other day while turning a corner, this happened a couple of times.
The idle is fine otherwise. It doesn't stall during normal stop and go driving. I've had the vechile about two years without any idle problems.
thanks for your relpy , I don't have anything to pull the codes with. Maybe autozone has something I can borrow. Anyway I might just take the thing to a local mechanic. I just thought it maybe be something easy to fix. I grew up working on cars that were very simple, no fuel injection, no computers, no sensors, so all of this is new to me.

No paperclips around there? If you click on that link, you can read how to do it with just any jumper wire. There's another link there that will show you all the code definitions.
