I own a 1989 Ford F150 with the 302 engine.Facing the throttle body,on the upper left hand side there is a protrusion that sticks out where a hose of some sort goes onto.Where does the hose connect to?The problem that I am having is that when you shift gears, the engine rpm does not drop off like it suppose to do.From what I have read from other posts,it's probably the TPS.But I want to make sure that everything is right before I pull of the throttle body and replace the TPS.
Thanks in advance for the info
Jack
it's a coolant line that is T'd off of one of the heater hoses. Supposed to keep the TB from icing up during cold weather.
There should be one at the opposite end that is outlet/inlet. I don't think it matters which one goes in and which one goes out, as long as it flows through the TB.
I found where the hoses hook up,but the bottom part on the throttle body is broken off. They just bypassed it with one hose.I wonder if not running the anti freeze through the throttle body will hurt it or it's operating correctly?I now just finished changing the TPS and cleaning the throttle body, which was very, very dirty. It idles a whole lot better and when you change grears, the rpm does drop down. Thanks again for the info-Jack
If you live in a climate where there's ice, you may need it in winter if you do long drives in freezing conditions - the throttle plate can freeze in position.
I don't think so, but you can probably get the broken tube out with an EZ-Out or just a plain screw, then press in a piece of copper or steel line. JBWeld it for more security.
I may be wrong, but I thought the TBs were the same size for both the 5.0L and the 5.8L and the 460 was the only one that was larger. I thought that was why Edelbrock/BBK had the 56mm TBs for the 5.0/5.8 and the 61mm was more ideal for the 460.
Either way Steve's suggestion is a good one none the less.
