6.0 Intercooler question

I am planning to replace my 7.3 for the larger 6.0 intecooler. Is there a difference between 6.0 model years as far as bolt-up attachment locations, or are they all the same?

Thanks in advance,

Rich

I would recommend against this. I cannot answer your fitment question, but you are not the first to do this swap and most find that there are little to no significant changes to the operating temperatures between the two. Also the 6.0L cooler has plastic end caps, where as *MOST* 7.3L ones are metal. The plastic ones have a habit of blowing out at the most inopportune times.

Personally, I wouldnt do the swap. If you need more cooling power go for an aftermarket one. If you just need a new one, get an OEM one.

Just my .02

You could go further into the aftermarket side, but if not, check out this. Know a few people that have installed this and are pleased with the results! Riffraff Diesel: Mishimoto 6.0L Aluminum Intercooler

Thanks for the idea. I'm researching all options before I make a purchase.

Thanks for the info. What is the result when the plastic end caps blow out?

Yes. But you will have no boost and she will run hot. Dont try to tow or go up any grades.
Unless when it blows it takes out the radiator or something.

Really lots of guys have the 6.0 intercooler and like them. When towing is when you're see the most benefit. There is pro's and con's but theres thousands of them on 6.0 trucks and not much of a problem. Some guys also go with banks 6.0 cooler because its bigger then the one he makes for the 7.3 . Riffraff cooler is nice for the price. Again the most difference there is when towing also. What do you plan to do that you need it. Injectors and turbo, or just for play?

I have a OEM 7.3 intercooler that I need to get rid of. I installed a Banks 7.3 intercooler so my old one is just sitting in a box. If you need an OEM one send me a PM.

Setting my truck up a little at a time. Ultimately, It will be for towing a 5th wheel with my boat to mountain lakes, etc.

I don't need one yet (hopefully I didn't jinx myself), just getting educated on options. Thanks
