I have a clicking noise coming from the hubs that seems to be getting louder as the weeks go by.Is this the dreaded superduty wheel bearings going out or could it be something else?I have 28K miles on it.Do they wobble or grind when they do eventually go out?
Just jack it up and see if there's any play in the wheel bearing. If not it's probably the hub. Do you have ESOF? Probably so. Have you been in 4x4 lately? If yes to both then it's probably a hub that didn't unlock all the way.
Come to think of it a quicker way to check would be to lock both front huns in and drive it and see if it clicks. Usually the clicking if caused by a hub is from a partially engaged hub not one locked in. Locking it in should make it stop temporarily to diagnose the prob.
dmilkman does the noise stop as soon as you shift into 4x4 (that is is you have the shift on the fly) mine did and it was the hub and bearing but i got all the way to 47000 miles the repair at dealer is high look at the post for better and smarter than I did. also tried to talk to ford customer relations(customer care) this is the extreme of an oxymoron they refered me back to the service manager for more run around
